During the 2017-2018 school year the University Farm will be organizing eight workshops, hosting one every month, for farm employees and other students that will be partnered with local farmers, businesses, communities and organizations. Workshops will include broad ecological categories of land use, construction projects, waste management and promoting healthy lifestyles. Approximately 8-16 students attend each workshop, opening with an on-campus afternoon of training a few days prior to the event if applicable, and then the afternoon or day-long event will be held the following Saturday at the target business or organization.
This project, FarmHands, fosters positive relationships through collaboration between the University Farm and other local farms and organizations, provides students with new access to environmentally conscious lifestyle decisions and technical skills, and encourages students to engage with the greater community surrounding Sewanee in work that is simultaneously service and environmentally oriented.
