Sewanee’s commitment to community engagement has been a central part of our growth. Research done at the farm is meant to benefit the public as well as to train University students in the scientific method. The University Farm hosts four AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers, Bonner Leader students, and other similarly minded individuals who are interested in developing the skills necessary to serve others.
Community partners throughout the South Cumberland Plateau meet with the farm manager to identify how our farm resources can support community needs in a way that is meaningful to the personal development of University students. In this way, we support the mission of community partners to reduce poverty and hunger and the mission of the University to provide a transformative development experience for students.
